Operation White Sands

9-10 October 2021: Themed Game, Catterick OBUA

Location: Oluyole, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria

Following JCTSF operations against militant groups across Central and Western Africa, it has become clear that Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS) forces have begun to merge into the ranks of the Azearian State (AS) group.

With the advanced logistical backings from AS, terrorism operations have expanded across state borders and the Nigerian government is days away from declaring a state of emergency in Oyo, Osun and Kwara states. With the ongoing fight against Boko Haram in the northeast, and AS reinforcing from the south, the situation is increasingly dire for the West African country.

Regular SIGINT chatter referencing IEDs in the city of Ibadan in Oyo State has placed the state capital on a list of possible targets for a terrorist attack.

Azearian State cells have been known to carry out ground reconnaissance on potential targets ahead of a planned attack. CHIS in Ibadan have identified several key areas that have been a hive of suspicious activity in recent weeks. Oluyole district in the south, a mainly residential area with road, river and railroad access into the heart of the city, is top of the list. UAV footage showing clear mobilisation of AS forces has now confirmed Oluyole to be the launching point for an attack.

TF29 forces from JCTSF in Osun state have been redirected to intercept the Azearian State attack and protect the civilians of Ibadan.
