Operation Swiftsure 4

27-28 January 2024: Combat Mission, Catterick OBUA

Location: Arab Ejbur, Baghdad, Iraq

With G Squadron, 22 SAS coming to the end of their rotation in Task Force Knight, Operation Swiftsure 4 could well be their last chance to kill or capture Adnan Yusef Ali Khan, the al-Qaeda mastermind behind the bombing of the Ejbur Police Station.

In the months since Operation Swiftsure 3, Baghdad Province has seen a huge increase in sectarian violence utilising VBIED and HBIED attacks, plus a new wave of suicide attacks against Coalition troops, Iraqi government personnel and infrastructure.

Latest intel confirms that Khan has built a network of loyal Shaheeds to carry out IED attacks with deadly precision. Many of these have been followed up with small arms fire and secondary explosives to further create chaos and terror.

Khan’s attacks coupled with those of the emerging Islamic State across the Green Zone has left the struggling Iraqi Forces overstretched, with limited control of the city.

With parliamentary elections due in March, G Squadron and the rest of Task Force Knight have one last chance to bring Khan to justice.

To aid with this effort CIA SOG has resumed its program of financially securing the non-involvement of local leaders in the hope of denying Khan the resources and manpower to continue his campaign of attrition.
