Operation Red Eye

11-12 June 2022: Themed Game, Catterick OBUA

Location: Metuge, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique

After months of fighting between the Mozambique Armed Defence Forces (FADM) and rebel factions, the East African country of  Mozambique has become a proving ground for militants from all across Africa.

Aside from Ansar al-Sunna (AAS), leadership elements of Boko Haram and Azearian State have been identified by intelligence assets on the ground. Furthermore, the coastline of Mozambique has turned into a free-for-all for Somalian pirates.

In the last 48 hours nearly 100 militants of an unknown organisation began conducting attacks in Metuge, a small town near the capital of Cabo Delgado Province, Pemba. Much like the Battle of Palma in 2021, the gas infrastructure has been targeted, leading to the killing of civilians, foreign workers and several local officials.

The militants have been heard shouting ‘Bism Azear’ during the attacks, linking them to the Azearian State terror group, although no official statement has been made. Approximately 8 hours ago, an SI7 CHIS observing the situation called in a report that the militant commander has been identified as Asim Aidid al-Jem, a relation of the deceased radical Azearian cleric. Shortly afterwards, contact with the CHIS was lost.

With combating Azearian State still the main remit of JCTSF, TF45 have been authorised to enter the town of Metuge, eliminate the militants and capture al-Jem.
