Operation Kamin

14-15 August 2021: Combat Mission, The Trees
Location: Agbedi, IVO Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria

In May 2021, the Azearian State (AS) terror group captured the coastal town of Badagry, a suburb of the Nigerian capital Lagos. In response to the escalating violence, the Nigerian government hired several private military companies, most importantly the Samark Security Group (SSG).

By June, AS had begun to besiege the outskirts of Lagos. The rebels beheaded civilians from nearby villages, as well as people who were trying to flee the town. The civilians who remained in the area faced starvation.

On 24 July, more than 100 militants, split into two groups, launched a planned attack on Lagos and carried out coordinated terrorist attacks at different sites. They initially targeted police stations and checkpoints, then used explosives to break into banks. Residential neighbourhoods were attacked, resulting in the death of several civilians.

Over the next few days SSG began extracting officials hiding in the city, including the Lagos district administrator. Assisted by SSG, about 50 survivors fled with a convoy of 12 vehicles. However, only eight vehicles successfully escaped the city, while the other four vehicles were cut off and attacked.

During the chaos a contingent of 16 SSG contractors managed to escape and flee to the remote area of Agbedi, north of Lagos, where they occupied a former military outpost to await rescue.

TF29 from JCTSF are put on standby, while AS militants begin swarming Agbedi in search of the contractors.
