Operation Highworth 4

7-9 November 2025: 36H Combat Mission, Catterick OBUA

Location: IVO Tikrit Iraq

In early 2008, amid the height of the Iraqi insurgency, UK Special Forces operating in Baghdad delivered a decisive blow to Al-Qaeda by dismantling a network of deadly bomb-making cells responsible for dozens of attacks across the capital. The success, however, forced insurgent leadership to retreat north to the volatile city of Tikrit, where they began regrouping and planning new offensives. Intelligence soon revealed that a group of Western aid workers in the region, vital to local stabilization efforts, had been marked for abduction by insurgents seeking leverage and propaganda victories.

Tasked with a high-stakes mission, UK Special Forces are deployed deep into hostile territory to locate and extract the aid workers before they are captured. As insurgent forces mass around Tikrit, determined to reclaim lost influence, British operators must navigate a treacherous urban landscape riddled with IEDs, ambushes, and shifting loyalties. The mission rapidly risks escalating into a dual fight: rescuing the hostages while engaging in sharp, close-quarters combat against increasingly aggressive militant factions. With limited time and growing enemy numbers, the operation is a race against insurgents eager to ignite fresh chaos and undermine coalition efforts in Iraq’s fragile northern provinces.
