Operation Highworth 2

11-13 April 2025: 36H Combat Mission, Catterick OBUA

Location: Arab Jabour, Baghdad, Iraq – 2008

Three months after the success of Operation Highworth, Task Force Knight’s efforts have severely set back Al-Qaeda’s ability to launch large-scale IED attacks in the region. The intelligence gathered from the op has led to multiple high-level captures, disrupting AQ’s local operations; but while AQ’s immediate plans were foiled, the insurgent group is far from defeated.

In late March a surge of violence has swept through the Sunni Triangle as AQ regrouped and adapted. With their supply of high-grade explosives and warheads diminished, they turned to smaller, less sophisticated bombs. But they are still deadly, and IED’s have continued to cause devastating casualties to both Iraqi civilians and coalition forces.

TF Knight has remained in the area, working closely with Iraqi Federal Police to provide counter-IED training and disrupt insurgent cells. Intelligence suggested that AQ is now planning a major attack using small arms and smaller IEDs, aiming to destabilize key Iraqi cities in preparation for a larger offensive.

Latest intel suggests the insurgents have upgraded their digital communication methods and several internet cafes have been identified and placed under surveillance; this in turn has shown the AQ cells may have a new source for the high grade munitions and components to build the planned large scale IEDS they failed to acquire in January.

The UKSF soldier from TF Knight, Samuel Frank who was wounded and captured by AQ during the defence of the police station in Arab Jabour remains a hostage despite multiple raids on suspected locations around the region. His safe return is a top priority for TF Knight.
