Operation Empire

24-25 July 2021: Combat Mission, Catterick OBUA

Location: Sirte, Tripolitania, Libya

In June 2021 TF29 is deployed on a counter terrorism operation in the Atlas mountains with the intention of disrupting Azearian State supply operations from reaching the Moroccan coast. Utilising the vast array of munitions and explosives left over from years of conflict in the Maghreb, AS seek to establish supply networks through the area.

Intel has previously suggested direct routes from Chad, north into Libya and onto the Mediterranean coast are too obvious, however it seems with the vast number of AS forces accumulating in the Maghreb, and support for Azearian rule increasing across northern Africa, those routes have now opened up.

On July 20, a large group of Azearian State fighters began a siege on the outskirts of Sirte on the Libyan coastline. Waves of attackers were held back by security contractors from Samark Security Group (SSG) protecting the American and British missions inside the citadel.

It has been assessed that this attack is either in preparation for a large movement of forces and supplies, or an attempt to secure a stronghold on the Libyan coast.

As of July 23, the attacks continue. PMCs inside the citadel are now surrounded and it is only a matter of time before they are overrun by AS militants.

A small contingent of TF29, JCTSF is deployed to a small military base in Sirte to attempt to break the siege.
