Operation Corsair

26-27 June 2021: Combat Mission, The Trees

Location: Al Haouz, Marrakesh-Safi, Morocco

Over the last few months, there has been a wave of small scale IED attacks across Europe, the Middle East and Africa utilising a new explosives technology similar to that of TATP, as used in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing, the 2016 Brussels bombings, and the 2005 London attacks.

Although no one has formally claimed responsibility for the attacks, SSE recovered during counter-terrorism raids points to new explosives technologies and methods orchestrated by the African based Azearian State (AS) terror group.

The new explosive used in the recent attacks has been classified as TATP(B1), more commonly referred to as the “Father of Azear” in SIGINT intercepts. This formula still requires all the same chemicals to create but is now activated by the explosion of highly modified Composition B, an explosive found commonly in old Russian munitions.

With such a powerful explosive that is so easily transported, concealed and manufactured, terror threat levels are at an all time high.

Satellite and UAV surveillance has detected a large convoy of mixed civilian and military vehicles crossing the Atlas mountains towards the coast. HUMINT sources on the ground have confirmed the vehicles are carrying a large amount of cargo, and are protected by armed insurgents.

With such a large quantity of unused Russian munitions and explosives in the Maghreb following years of conflict, it would be only logical for AS to begin their new distribution operation there, and attempt to make it to the coast for export to mainland Europe.

JCTSF, the combined UK/US task force conducting counter-terrorism and security operations in response to AS, has its remit expanded, and TF29 is deployed to Al Haouz.
