Operation Corkscrew

25-27 September : 36 hour Combat Mission, The Trees

Location: IVO Bulungo DRC

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is effectively divided.

The Congolese coup forces successfully destroyed the Bulungu coltan operation to deny its use. But against expectations, Strategic Solutions Africa has successfully secured the Kolwezi copper complex and the cobalt mining sites. Congolese military assaults were repelled with minimal losses. Several armoured columns were destroyed by drone-guided ambushes, and key access roads remain under company control.

However, the victory has created a new crisis.
Neighbouring countries begin taking sides.
The government of Zambia closes parts of its border after refugees begin fleeing combat zones.

Meanwhile, intelligence sources indicate that elements within Angola may permit logistical support shipments to reach the Congolese military.International media coverage intensifies.

  • Global markets react violently.
  • The mines under Strategic Solutions’ protection account for a significant percentage of global cobalt exports.
  • Commodity prices surge.
  • Major technology companies urgently demand uninterrupted supply contracts, while investors pressure governments to intervene.

The company now controls resources worth billions but cannot legally export them without international recognition.

In Kinshasa, General Jean-Baptiste Moke, leader of the coup government, appears on state television.
“Foreign mercenaries have illegally occupied sovereign Congolese territory and stolen the wealth of our people. We call upon all patriotic citizens to resist.”
The announcement triggers immediate consequences.

The Armed Forces of the Congo have halted direct assaults and shifted strategy.
Military intelligence reports indicate:

  • General Moke has moved three army brigades into the AO
  • Artillery batteries are being deployed within striking distance of mining infrastructure.
  • Special Forces units have infiltrated nearby towns disguised as civilians.
  • And local militias are being offered cash and weapons to harass company supply routes.
  • Rather than recapturing the mines, the government once again appears prepared to destroy them.
  • The greatest threat may come from inside the perimeter.

At Bulungu, drone surveillance detects suspicious activity among subcontracted workers.
Intelligence officers uncover evidence that:
Workers have been bribed by the coup government.
Fuel reserves have been sabotaged.
Sensitive site maps have been leaked.

The possibility of an insider attack rises by the hour.

Compromised assets must be identified and neutralised.
A convoy carrying medical supplies for 20,000 civilians approaches the Bulungu security zone.
Drone reconnaissance identifies armed militants hidden among the refugee column.

Allowing the convoy through could save thousands of lives but risks a major infiltration.
Turning it away could trigger an international humanitarian crisis and destroy Strategic Solutions’ public legitimacy.

As dawn breaks over Bulungu, Daniel Harwood must decide:
Protect the perimeter at all costs—or risk opening the gates to an enemy already inside the crowd.
