Operation Lightfoot

14-17 May 2026: Combat Mission, The Trees

Location: IVO bulungu: Democratic republic of the Congo

In the command center of Strategic Solutions Africa, a British private military contractor that had operated across the Congo basin for two decades, the night shift watched the feeds turn chaotic. Columns of armored vehicles were rolling through the outskirts of Kinshasa. The presidential guard had vanished from their checkpoints. On military frequencies, a single message repeated: “The Armed Forces are assuming national authority.”

Within minutes, the company’s regional director, former British officer Daniel Harwood, was awake and reviewing satellite imagery. Strategic Solutions controlled security for three cobalt mines, a coltan extraction site in Bulungu, and two major copper processing facilities. Billions in resources—assets the Congolese military now intended to nationalise.

Reports from the field grew worse. Soldiers were already moving toward the Kolwezi copper complex. A company convoy had been halted outside Likasi. Local commanders were demanding that all foreign personnel stand down.

Harwood knew the pattern. In past African coups, infrastructure and resources were seized first. Mines meant leverage, revenue, and legitimacy.

He ordered immediate lockdown procedures. Perimeter drones launched. Evacuation helicopters were placed on standby.

Outside, the African night was still calm.

But by sunrise, the Congolese military would be coming for every mine Strategic Solutions had spent twenty years protecting.
