Operation High Wood

26-28 July 2024: 36H Combat Mission, The Trees

Location: Abéché, Ouaddaï Region, Chad

Intelligence recovered during Operation Namsos suggests that the abducted British ambassador Sir Edward Thatch was moved overland by train from Sudan into Chad itself.

The intel has been verified by multiple sources and UAS assets deployed over Abéché have confirmed an unusual amount of militia activity in the remote region, just inside the Chad border.

As yet no visual confirmation of Thatch has been achieved, but CHIS assets have been deployed to the area ahead of any move by JCTSF units standing by on the Sudanese border.

A rescue attempt such as this poses many difficulties, most important of which: the action of military operations inside Chad goes directly against several ceasefire agreements established by Chadian President Tasteé when he assumed power following the 2018 elections. Despite this, higher ups have deemed it a worthy risk pending a more solid intelligence update from local ground sources.

Any operation here would be seen as a two tier operation, as current intel suggests that Abéché may in fact be a staging area for insurgents before they cross the border into Sudan.

The recovery of Ambassador Thatch would be the priority, with secondary objectives of removing enemy weapons capability and eliminating insurgent commanders before they can cross the border. TF29, JCTSF is on standby.
