Operation Swiftsure 3

23-24 September 2023: Combat Mission, Catterick OBUA
Location: Arab Ejbur, Baghdad, Iraq. 2009

The Arab Ejbur district in the south of the capital has once again been plunged into chaos as insurgent violence spirals out of control.

Sectarian violence between Sunni and Shia groups and dozens of al-Qaeda coordinated IED attacks has left scores dead including Iraqi Police, civilians and withdrawing Coalition forces.

The Ejbur Police Station has been besieged, cutting off police and a small group of UKSF stationed there on a 24 hour rotation.

SIGNIT suggests insurgents are planning a campaign of large scale bomb attacks in the immediate future, intelligence is working to determine possible targets but it is known that AQI is backing the entire operation.

Task Force Knight, operating out of MSS Fernandez, are still attempting to find, fix, finish Adnan Yusef Ali Khan, the master bomb maker and local commander for AQI in Baghdad.

A new militant group is claiming responsibility for many of the attacks and several police officers along with their families have been kidnapped and some executed. Others are being paraded on propaganda videos demanding ransoms to be paid. New intel recovered during SOF operations has identified the group as Qatalat Rijal al-Maeiz (QRM).
